Freaking out a little big guys!
Yesterday after realizing it was my sorta running anniversary, I decided to check out if there were any Turkey Trots in my area on Thanksgiving…
WELLL… GUESS WHAT?!
There is!!!
So I texted my friend (the one joining the army) and asked if she would be up to waking up at the crack of dawn—which she was! And we are both going to run. WOOHOO!
I’m so excited, you have no idea ![]()
Well, actually I’m sure all you runners out there who have experienced a first race can totally relate ![]()
Like I’m going all out guys.. I’m thinking turkey knee high socks, turkey ear warmers, turkey gloves… the WORKS!
I’ll be sure to get my fan club to take some pictures
because you better believe my family is coming to cheer me on.
It’s a 5 mile run, and I actually thought it was a 5K when I first read the description, but I figured I haven’t ran 5 miles in a while, so I should be good.
Guess I’ll have something to talk about on my date ![]()
Workout
Although this running talk got me in the mood to run, I stuck with my plan to walk instead. I ended up walking for 30 minutes on an incline. I sometimes find that I get sweatier when walking on a treadmill than running outside—probably because it’s like 30 degrees in the morning lol
I’ve been following Tone It Up this week so I’ve been doing 2 strength workouts a day.. but it’s really not that intense at all which is perfect. The afternoon ones seem to be more like Pilates for only 10 minutes ![]()
Breakfast:
I picked up some Cinnamon Raisin Toast yesterday at the store, so I knew I wanted to have some for breakfast ![]()
Cinnamon toast, protein frosting, blueberries, and hemp hearts ![]()
I never tried protein frosting before, it was pretty good! I mixed 1 scoop protein, 1 tbsp powdered peanut butter, and 2 tbsp almond milk + water until it got to a good consistency.
xx
Rachel
Questions:
Any tips for a first racer??
What was your first race like?
Know where I can get turkey knee socks? ![]()

I am SO excited for you!!!!! My first race was last December, I was SO nervous!! It was a 5K, and I wanted a certain time. I think my biggest piece of advice is DO NOT do that!! Don’t expect a certain time, go out there to FINISH and have fun!! Just run what feels good, and if you love it..then you can start going for times! Since it’s your first race no matter what it will be a PR! GAH you’ve inspired me to go sign up for another one!

Biggest tip is to have fun and don’t set a time goal! If you have a friend stick with her and have fun! Also dress warmmmm, you will end up sitting around for a while before hand. My first race was a week before I got LASIK so I was stuck running in glasses, in march, and I was freeeeezing. They were foggy the whole time and I felt like a gross lump. My race picture was priceless though, I look foul, enjoy – http://abetteryeartoabetterlife.com/2012/03/09/im-so-attractive/

oo thanks for the tip! I’ll def be bringing my hand warmers — I’m hoping it’s not too too cold lol omg I hate foggy glasses!! That’s the worst! hahaha aww you don’t look that bad!
def into it though
I’m sure I’ll look like a spaz in mine (if they take any haha)

November 14, 2012 at 7:02 pm
Your first race?! Eeee! How exciting
I wish I could give you some advice, but (and this is embarrassing to admit in the blog world), I’ve never actually run a race. I’m going to go out on a limb, though, and suggest to just have fun and not set any concrete times/goals for yourself. Yes, that sounds good
November 14, 2012 at 7:17 pm
aww yes that sounds very good to me
I’m going to try not to focus on times or anything
November 15, 2012 at 12:58 am
