How I cook buckwheat!

As I mentioned earlier, I love buckwheat.

I don’t normally have it in the summer months, because I tend to crave cooler breakfasts, but not that Fall is here (almost Smile with tongue out) I am glad to say that buckwheat is slowly making a comeback Winking smile

What is buckwheat you ask?

I thought the same thing when I saw it at the store one afternoon.  It’s resemblance to steel cut oats is what intrigued me.

Many might think, like I did, that buckwheat is a “wheat” product.  But guess what… it’s not! Buckwheat is actually a fruit seed, related to rhubarb, and is perfect for those of you who have Celiacs, or are gluten/wheat sensitive.

My favorite way to eat it?  Cooked like hot oatmeal!!

Step 1: Boil 3/4- 1 cup water (depending on how liquidy you want it)
Step 2: Pour 1/4 cup buckwheat groats into pot
Step 3: Stir immediately so you won’t get chunks
Step 4: Let simmer (level 2-3 on my stove top) for 5 minutes
Step 5: Pour into bowl and enjoy Open-mouthed smile

My personal favorite recipe for breakfast?

C360_2012-09-19-09-30-01

1/4 buckwheat
1 tsp chia seeds
1/2 cup blueberries
1 scoop Sunwarrior (or any other brand) vanilla protein

Then I usually top it off with some nut butter, because nothing is better than hot warm buckwheat with drippy nut butters Winking smile

Love my oats/buckwheat bowls filled with berries Open-mouthed smile

Yummy in my tummy!

It’s so versatile, so I’m going to definitely be doing some experiments this fall Winking smile

Now, gooooo try it out!!!

xx
